AFREAK is refreshingly nosy in its questions and refreshingly boring in its data practices. Here is the whole story.

No accounts. You cannot sign up, so we cannot store a profile on you. Your test answers are scored in your browser and are never sent to a server.

What we do count. When you finish a test or vote, your browser sends one line so we can keep a tally: which test or matchup, which side you picked, the version of the test, the date, and for a finished test your score, your Freak Type and your six dimension numbers. Those last three are what a city average and a Freak Type breakdown are actually made of, so there is no version of the Freak Map that works without them.

We add it up and throw it away. There is no table of events. Your line is added into running totals the moment it arrives and the line itself is discarded, so what exists afterwards is a count and a sum across many people, with no row that was ever yours. That is why sending a score is safe here and would not be safe in a product that kept the rows.

What the tally never contains. Our Freak statistics database stores no IP addresses, no user agents, no names, no answers, no share codes, no account or visitor identifiers, and nothing that could link two submissions to the same person. To be exact rather than flattering: every request on the internet arrives from an IP address, and our hosting provider keeps ordinary server logs like any host does. What we control is what we put in the statistics, and none of that is in it.

Your city, only if you say so. Those anonymous lines carry a city only when you have picked one yourself in your Locker. We do not look up your location from your IP address, your timezone, or anything else, and there is no default. If you have not chosen a city, your result still counts towards the national totals and no city gets it. You can remove your city at any time, which stops future results being attributed to it. It cannot subtract results already counted, because those totals hold nothing that could find them again.

Results live in the link. Your Freak Score, dimensions, and the name you optionally type are encoded directly into your result URL. Anyone you send that link to can see that result, that is the entire point of the card. Don't put anything in the name field you wouldn't want on the card.

Your browser remembers, we don't. We use localStorage on your own device for your Freak Locker, which holds every test result you have finished, and for your Daily Freak and Freak Off votes. None of it is uploaded, and there is no account attached to it. Clearing your browser data erases it, and your Locker has a button that erases it on demand.

Hosting. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (IP addresses, requested pages) to run the service. We do not use advertising trackers or analytics pixels at this time. If that changes, this page changes first.
