ONE PERSON, NO PSYCHOLOGISTS, AND A LIST OF WHAT WE REFUSE
AFREAK is a comedy personality quiz. It is made by one person, every question is written by hand, nothing on it is a psychology test, and every card it makes can be checked by anyone holding the link. This page is the who, the how, and the won't.
WHO MAKES THIS
Epic
Epic writes every question on AFREAK, decides what it will and will not build, and also makes yank.info (five sourced lines from anything worth reading, each with a receipt) and playback.tv (the exact moment in a video, as a link). The three share one instinct: a claim should come with the thing that lets you check it. On AFREAK that is the answers inside every card.
No psychologist reviewed anything here, and none is claimed. That is a feature of a comedy site, not a gap in one.
HOW THE TESTS ARE WRITTEN
- By hand, from everyday situations, in AFREAK's own voice. A stranger's card declined in line ahead of you. A karaoke mic. A drawer.
- Never with a source scale open. Describing a trait is free; copying an instrument is not, and we do not.
- Scored by a fixed model that is the same for everyone. When a test changes, its scoring version changes, and cards from before are shown as they were scored, never silently re-scored.
- The Freak Index is about the instrument, never about people: how rare your answer pattern is among everything the test can produce.
- Every question stem is public on the test's own page. The answers and their weights are not; the test is better met in order.
WHAT AFREAK WILL NOT BUILD
- depression and anxiety screening
- disordered eating
- addiction and substance-use severity
- self-harm and suicidality
- psychosis-proneness
- trauma and PTSD
- ADHD and autism screening
- personality disorders and the Dark Triad
- body image or any appearance ranking
The reason is the same for all of them: a joke result turns a false negative into reassurance. Somebody who is unwell scores “Mildly Moody”, laughs, and stops looking. “For entertainment purposes only” does not fix that, so the test is not built.
WHAT WE DO NOT USE
- No trademarked type systems, named or parodied. The ten Freak Types are our own.
- No proprietary or licensed questionnaires. Nothing here is a reproduced instrument.
- No invented numbers. A percentage on this site is either a model output labelled as one, a count of our own votes with its denominator beside it, or a cited public dataset. Never a fourth thing.
- No gates. No result is held behind a payment, an email or a share.
PROVENANCE
- The only address is afreak.com. There is no AFREAK app, no affiliate programme and nothing to buy. If something charges you for a Freak Test, it is not us.
- Any card can be checked at /verify. If the numbers in a link do not match the answers it carries, the page says so and shows the real ones.
- Assistants and crawlers get the same facts in one place: /for-ai, with Markdown and JSON twins.
- Written to be safe for a teenager, a workplace and an ad network. What we count and what we never store is on /privacy.
CONTACT AND REPORTS
No contact address is printed yet. When one is set it appears here, on every Freaky Moment page, and on the Freak Card report path. Until then, reports that reach Epic by any route are acted on by hand.
WHAT CHANGED, AND WHEN
Dated from the commit history, newest first. A test's version only moves when its questions or scoring move.
- Every Freak Card becomes checkable: the link carries the answers it was scored from, and /verify re-scores them. A finished test counts once per device. Score buckets for a future histogram. The test pages get a readable body. Freaky Moments. This page.
- The question count derives from the test itself everywhere; it had kept saying 25 in places after the test went to 30. The homepage and the sitemap refresh hourly instead of once per deploy.
- Zoomed state maps on every city and state page. The states tab says 49 states and DC, and names why Tennessee has no 2024 estimate. The event endpoint refuses anything not on a list.
- Zip lookup on the Freak Map, done on the device from a static file. Click a state to drill in. Drop your pin.
- The Freak Test grows to 30 questions with situational items. The scoring version moves with it; older cards stay as they were scored and say so.
- Freak Off vote splits: shown once real votes exist, never seeded.
- Freak Cred, levels and badges, kept on the device. The Daily Freak rebuilt around its date. A real map of the United States.
- The Daily Freak gets a calendar and a permanent archive. The Freak Locker at /me. The Freak Map on cited CDC data. Four topical tests.
- AFREAK launches: the Freak Test, Freak Off, the first Freak Cards.
